The Ph.D in Economics and Management is structured with courses and exams completely in English, in line with the most prestigious European and American Ph.D programs. We regularly enroll Italian and international students interested in improving their knowledge of modern tools in both theoretical and empirical economic and management analysis. Our Ph.D. students are expected to produce analytical work and original research, that will enable them to start an academic career as well to work for international organizations, public institutions, and large firms.
The Course Structure
The doctoral program lasts three years, with courses and exams in the first academic year and with thesis work during the final two years, part of which should be spent abroad. In particular, our students may benefit from several agreements between our University and prestigious foreign institutions as - among the others - the Italia-MIT consortium, the exchange programs with the Boston University and the University of California system, and the joint-doctoral program in Economics with the University of York.
During the first year students will attend three terms during which several qualifying courses will be offered. Courses will deal both with theoretical tools and with applied techniques. At the end of the third term, students will be asked to choose between "Economics" and "Management".
Admission
Admission to the Ph.D. Program in Economics and Management is decided after careful evaluation of each candidate''s qualifications.
Regular admission is decided in November of each year, but foreign students non residing in Italy have the possibility to apply for special grants (including full board and lodging in Padova).
