PHD SCHOLARSHIP IN GLOBALISATION AND INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS

The Department of Economics at Aarhus School of Business, University of Aarhus, invites applications for a PhD scholarship starting December 1, 2007 or soon thereafter.

The PhD scholarship is fully funded by the ongoing research project Globalisation and Industry Dynamics, which is financed by the Danish Social Science Research Council. The PhD project will be an integrated part of this project. The successful candidate will be affiliated with and positioned at the Department of Economics at Aarhus School of Business, University of Aarhus, Denmark.


The PhD scholarship is offered within theoretical or empirical analysis of international economics. Specifically, the work should be conducted on the interaction of trade policy and trade barriers with industry and firm export behaviour. The theoretical anchor of the PhD project is intended to be within the currently evolving theory of trade with heterogeneous firms and/or imperfect competition and trade.

Terms of employment:

*The PhD scholarship is for a 3-year period. It can be awarded to persons with a Master''s degree or students who expect to obtain their Master''s degree in the near future.

As part of the PhD scholarship the successful candidate will be enrolled in a PhD programme comprising a number of courses within the relevant research area.

Applicants are expected to be willing to spend up to 6 months at a foreign university as part of the scholarship. There will be a minimal teaching load in the department programs and we offer wide possibilities for PhD scholars to attend conferences, where they can present their research. Furthermore, we expect that PhD scholars participate in activities arranged by the department.

The applicants will be evaluated by an expert assessment committee whose final recommendations will be sent to the applicant. Priority will be given to the applicant who shows the best research potential.

The scholarship is paid in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the appoin¬tee''s organization. There is no tuition fee.
