The first position is focused on Analysis of multidimensional image data acquired using optical microscopy.
The post-doc will be involved in the research of image analysis methods suitable for the processing of biomedical image data generated using optical microscopy.
Typically the image data contain cells that are stained with fluorescent dyes. There can be up to 5 dimensions that are acquired: time, color (light wavelength) and three spatial. The image data are mostly analyze using our own library written in C++ that contains tools for image restoration, registration, segmentation as well as object reconstruction. The post-doc will participate on the development of these tools. Will to learn basics of molecular biology is needed as frequent communication with molecular biologists is assumed. Presently the main application is the study of structure and function of human genome.
The second position is in the area of formal verification of large-scale systems and is part of the EU funded project EC-MOAN - Scalable Modeling and Analysis Techniques to Study Emergent Cell Behavior. The aim of this project is to develop an integrated model of the E. coli stress response system, focusing on the metabolic, genetic and signaling modules that regulate nitrogen and carbon source limitations, to develop mathematical methods for system reduction and approximation, in order to deal with large-scale models in which different time scales and many unknown parameter values occur, and to develop parallel algorithms and prototype tools for exploring the models, predicting outcomes of experiments, and verifying specific properties at the model. The successful candidate will be involved in development ofalgorithms and techniques for parallel and other platform dependent verification methods and tools.
The third position is in the area of P2P similarity search infrastructure design and development. Faculty of Informatics participates in a consortium of European partners from academia and industry, developing a large-scale, distributed peer-to-peer architecture that will make it possible to search audio-visual content using the query-by-example paradigm. Specifically, the Search on Audio-visual content using Peer-to-peer Information Retrieval (SAPIR) project - EU funded project started January 2007 - will help find new ways to analyze, index, and retrieve the tremendous amounts of speech, image, video, and music that are filling our digital universe.
The fourth position is open for a postdoctoral researcher in the areas of applied cryptography and security. A postdoc is sought to assist with research related to one or more of the following: design and development of a cryptographic token of new generation; network communication analysis w.r.t. privacy issues; random number generation in mobile devices.
Faculty of Informatics is also participating in the FIDIS (Future of IDentity in the Information Society) Network of Excellence, as well as several research projects (funded by both industry and the public sector) related to user and data authentication, information and communication privacy, and other areasof ICT security.
The positions are initially limited to one year and can be extended by at most three years.? The gross salary will range between 1,500 Euros and 2,200 Euros monthly, depending on qualifications and experience. Anticipated starting date is June 1, 2007 but the start date can be negotiated.
Applicants should have, or be about to complete a PhD in Computer Science ora closely related discipline and ideally will have a strong background in the respective research topics. The willingness and competence to contribute to the teaching programme of the Faculty of Informatics is also of interest. The applicants should enjoy working in a team and have
good communication skills. Fluency in English is required.
Interested candidates are invited to apply by April 30, 2007, to:
