As of autumn 2008, the CIFE''s European Online Academy will offer a two-year Masters programme. Its Master in EU Studies (60 ECTS) is set to offer an accurate blend of theoretical and practical knowledge.
The Master in EU Studies is an ideal training programme and additional qualification for young professionals, postgraduates and junior officials interested in, or, already working in the field of European integration.

Objectives
-To gain an enhanced knowledge of recent developments in the European integration process and up-to-date insight into proceedings and policy areas, EU institutions, EU Law and Economics (1st year);
-To specialise in one of the core subjects: Political Science, Economics and EU Law, (2nd year);
-Diploma `Master in EU Studies`(60 ECTS -Credit Points).

Date: two years starting autumn 2008

Requirements
-University Graduate Degree (minimum required BA)
-Commitment to EU topics or relevant work experience
-Fluency in English

Methodology
The Master in EU Studies offers through a combination of e-learning and compact face-to-face learning phases in for example Berlin, Brussels, Budapest and Rome:
Online-Courses and discussion forums;
Interdisciplinary subject blend: Political Science,Economics and EU
Law;
Workshops and intercultural seminars;
Simulations, tests, written and oral exams;
Organised visits to the EU and national institutions, dialogue with decision makers.

The project involves recognized experts with academic and practical backgrounds as teachers, tutors and researchers such as FranAois Bafoil (Sciences-Po, Paris), AndrAs Inotai (Institute for World Economics, Budapest), Ingolf Pernice (Walter Hallstein-Institute, Humboldt-University, Berlin), Wolfgang Wessels (Jean Monnet Chair, University of Cologne), Robert Kissack (London School of Economics)
The working language is English.

-Transcript of results (original + translation)
-Letter of reference from two persons (employer or university professor). Alternatively you can mention their names and addresses (postal and email) and we will contact them.

Curriculum



1.Online Courses

First Year
The curriculum of the first year has been divided into three terms (trimesters):
1st term
Three compulsory introductory courses will provide the necessary multidisciplinary background with regard to the development of the EU system in the first trimester.
2nd and 3rd term
During the second and third trimesters participants choose from a range of optional and compulsory courses. These courses will give the participants the opportunity to study a specific area of interest in depth. In order to meet the requirements for completion of the programme, each participant must follow at least three courses in both the second and the third term.
Additional Activities
In addition to the course programme participants will have the opportunity to participate in different types of extra-curricular activities on offer which shall provide them with the practical knowledge and skills necessary for their professional development.

Second Year
During the second year of the Master in EU Studies the core subjects of the Master programme are :
Economics, Political Sciences and EU Law.

2. Presence Workshops
The European Online Academy is not only virtual. The core curriculum will be provided online, but face-to-face learning at four "presence workshops" (in Berlin, Rom, Budapest and Brussels) during the frist year and three during the second year. In this way face-to-face learning complements the e-learning progress. All module contents are dealing with relevant and up-to-date issues and go beyond "classic" lectures and seminars. The EOA hence offers an advanced and innovative way of teaching and studying EU-related issues.

Participation Fee, Early Bird and Scholarships
Participation fee
The participation fee is 7.200 euro for both years. This amount covers course materials, the educational and technical support, the use of the special internet workspace and boarding and lodging during the workshops. Travel costs shall be paid by the participants.
Half of the fee must be paid in full before 30 September 2008 for the first academic year. The second part must be paid by 30 May 2009.

Early bird application
The European Online Academy (EOA) awards a 10% reduction for early bird application before 10 July 2008. This discount is only applicable on the entire fee of 7200 euro. Applicants who would like to have the advantage of the early bird reduction must pay 3240 euro by 31 July 2008, and the other part 3240 euro before 30 May 2009.

Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships are available to reduce the financial burden of the course fees. The amount granted will depend on the individual student''s financial situation.
Applicants who apply for a scholarship are asked to declare their eligibility for a scholarship in the application form and prove their eligibility by sending a copy of their tax assessment notice or any other comparable document by email (cife-berlin@cife.eu) or by fax (+49-30-895 9 51-630). Only on the basis of the declaration and the documents at hand the Selection Committee will be able to examine the eligibility of the applicant and to decide on the amount of the scholarship.
Participants to whom we grant a scholarship will be accomodated in a twin bed room during the workshops.

Master in EU Studies and ECTS credits
After the successful completion of the two-year Master programme the participants receive a Diploma `Master in EU Studies Online` which is issued by CIFE and the Jean-Monnet Chair at the University of Cologne.
All successfully completed courses will be listed on the Diploma.
