Programme Description
As humanity''s single largest use of the earth''s resources, agriculture is a major driving force in the world economy. Food and agricultural raw materials are being produced, financed, traded, processed, regulated, researched, marketed and consumed worldwide. Agricultural Economics examines the use of available resources in this complex sector to meet the needs and desires of present and future generations.

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) programme "Agricultural Economics" at the University of Hohenheim is designed to prepare qualified people of all nationalities for these and other challenging tasks through state-of-the-art education. The programme emphasises a firm foundation in economic analysis and quantitative methods to address real-world problems. In Germany, Hohenheim is the first and currently the only university offering an agricultural economics programme in the English language.

Establishing the Hohenheim International Master of Science Programme, the University aims at contributing to the training of a future generation of agricultural scientists with competence in:

-perspectives of natural and social science
-analysis and synthesis of interdisciplinary systems
-providing communication
-negotiation and
-facilitation skills

After Successful completion of all modules as well as the thesis, the student is awarded the degree "Master of Science" (M.Sc.) in "Agricultural Economics". This degree entitles the student to continuing with a Ph.D./doctoral programme.

Contents
The two-year M.Sc. programme comprises four semesters, during which 15 thematic modules and the Master Thesis have to be completed. The programme starts in October (winter semester) each year. The language of instruction is English.
The programme emphasises a firm foundation in economic analysis and quantitative methods to address real-world problems. The programme offers:

Apart from five compulsory modules, students have a broad choice of elective modules. This ensures a solid agricultural economics education but also allows students to get trained according to their own career aspirations.

Six further modules can be chosen from the complete catalogue of the University''s agricultural master modules, including more than 30 disciplinary and interdisciplinary subjects.

Requirements
Admission to the M.Sc. programme "Agricultural Economics" at Hohenheim is restricted to 40 students per year. Students require an above-average Bachelor of Science or an equivalent degree in Agriculture, Economics or a related discipline following at least three years of university studies oder German FH studies. Over and above these general entry requirements, selection will be based upon grades, educational background and relevant professional experience. Additional professional qualifications can also be considered.

Applicants whose first language or language of instruction at University is not English have to provide a proof of proficiency in English (i.e. in TOEFL or IELTS Academic Test). Required TOEFL Scores are:
-a minimum of 550 points in the paper based test or
-213 points in the computer based test or
-79 points in the internet-based TOEFL test

Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships is available for outstanding AgEcon candidates from developing countries. These scholarships are provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) under its special initiative "Postgraduate Courses for Professionals with Relevance to Developing Countries". The typical scholarship holder will come either from a public authority or state or private company in a developing country and as such be engaged in the planning and execution of directives and projects with emphasis on development policy.
DAAD scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Only developing country nationals with at least four years of full-time university education and an outstanding bachelor degree can apply. In addition to the general AgEcon entry requirements, scholarship applicants need to have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience. The age limit is 36 years.
