The Master of Science in Engineering programmes are comprised of three consecutive blocks. The first consists of a basic block of courses in Natural Sciences and Mathematics. This is followed by a block of courses in Applied Engineering Sciences. The third block includes optional and compulsory courses within a chosen area of specialisation. There is no first degree (BScs) awarded. The main language of instruction in all these programmes is Swedish.Please follow the links in the left column for programme and course descriptions.Final Degree Project workThe final degree project is intended to demonstrate a) the student’s ability to apply knowledge acquired during the course of studies, and b) that the student is able to carry out a specific task in an independent manner. The final degree project for the MSc programmes consists of work corresponding to twenty weeks of full-time studies, 20 pong (30 ECTS credits). The final degree project for the BSc programmes has a duration of ten weeks, 10 pong (15 ECTS credits). The final degree project is normally carried out as the final part of each educational programme. The final degree project may be undertaken at KTH, at an industrial site, in a private company, or at a research institute in Sweden or abroad. However, a faculty member from KTH must always act as the supervisor. The project work may be of a theoretical and/or experimental nature, depending on the student's background and interests. The project is summarised into a written report and finally presented at a seminar. The student is responsible for finding a suitable degree project among those offered by departments or companies. Before the project work starts it must be approved by the supervisor at KTH. The final courses and the project work should together constitute the student's individual profile of skill and proficiency. The final degree project should be performed individually or in pairs. If students work together, each student's work should meet the demands on an individual final degree project. The thesis is generally written in Swedish or English and should always include an abstract in English.DegreeStudents who have successfully completed the study programme will be awarded the Swedish professional degree 'Civilingenjrsexamen', translated into English as 'Degree of Master of Science in Engineering, Degree programme in (name of the programme)'.Information on degrees awarded for specific programmes can be found on www.kth.se/student/examen/utbildningsprogram_examina.html After completion of the study programme, the student should fill out an Application for diploma in order to receive a diploma.Application and admissionIn order to be admitted to degree studies at undergraduate level at KTH, all the requirements stated below must be met. Admission requirements for the Programmes:Fulfilment ofa) general entrance requirements, i.e. successful completion of upper secondary education and b) specific entrance requirements, i.e. above average grades in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, or c) a minimum of one year of studies at university level in the three subjects stated under (b). Fulfilment of the requirements regarding knowledge of the Swedish language, documented by a passing grade in e.g. TISUS, a nationally accepted test in Swedish. Excellent knowledge of English, documented by an internationally recognised proficiency test such as the TOEFL test (minimum score 550, computer-based 213), or the IELTS (minimum score 5.5). Immigration requirements:Swedish visa (depending on nationality) and residence permit. EU/EEA-citizens apply for residence permit after arrival in Sweden. Information and forms can be obtained from the Migrationsverket (the Migration Board) web page.Funds covering the living expenses during the entire stay in Sweden must be proven, by bank statement or otherwise. The recommended minimum is SEK 7, 000 per month during ten months of the year. Students fulfilling the requirements above may apply to KTH for acceptance to one of the study programmes. However, please note that decisions on applications vary from year to year depending on the amount of vacant study placements available.
