MSc OpSciTech is a unique European Masteras Course providing a comprehensive and multidisciplinary coverage of the field of Optics, from upstream scientific aspects to engineering and applications in major sectors of the economy.
Offered by six top-level academic partners in five countries, it receives financial support from the European Commission and is supported by major industries such as Alcatel-Lucent, Philips, Saint-Gobain, Thales, Zeiss or ASML.

Erasmus Mundus grants for non-EU students
OpSciTech is one of the Master Courses selected by the prestigious Erasmus Mundus framework of the European Commission through which students from non-European Union countries are eligible for two-year grants of a 21,000 per year.
For 2007/2008, a total of 24 Erasmus Mundus grants are available for these students: 14 for students of any nationality and 10 specifically for students from aspecial windowsa, namely Asia, ACP countries, Western Balkans countries.
EM grants are awarded on the basis of merit by the European Commission under proposition of the OpSciTech board.
For whom does this apply?
Students from non-EU countries are defined as:
* nationals coming from all countries other than the 27 EU Member States, the EEA-EFTA states (Island, Liechtenstein and Norway) and the candidate countries for accession to the EU (presently Turkey)
* who are not residents of any of the above countries
* who have not carried out their main activities (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the above countries.
For 2007/8, the 10 extra-grants aspecial windowsa are reserved for students from:
* 6 Indian nationals;
* 1 Chinese national;
* 2 ACP nationals (79 countries from Africa, Caribbean Islands, Pacific; list to be precised);
* 1 Western Balkan national (Bosnai-Herzegovian, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania).
Note: aspecial windowsa grants are additional to the ageneral categorya, i.e., students from the aspecial windowsa countries are eligible for the general category as well.
Partner grants for EU OpSciTech students
aRegulara Erasmus Grants:
EU students can apply for an Erasmus student grant. However, the Erasmus student grant cannot cover the totality of the 2-year OpSciTech programme.
In practice, the university in which the European student starts the OpSciTech programme may grant an Erasmus student grant for the studentas study period at the second hosting institution within the Erasmus Mundus Masters consortium. Erasmus student grant can cover mobility period of 12 months maximum (~1,500 a/year).
EU students already enrolled in the last year of their Bachelor programme (or equivalent) in any of the partner institutions of the OpSciTech consortium can apply for an Erasmus student grant from their 1st year spent abroad out of their institution of origin.

Several scholarships/grants are proposed each year to students enrolled or about to enroll in graduate programmes in optical science and engineering and related disciplines:
- SPIE scholarships (SPIE: The International Society for Optical Engineering)
All scholarship applications will be judged on their own merit based on the experience and education level of the individual student. College undergraduate students are encouraged to apply and will be judged relative to other applicants with similar educational backgrounds.

Calendar for eligible students (after positive selection decision)
Non-European Union students - Phase 1:
* According to the selected applicantsa written decision to participate or not, the Coordinator sends, via mail, a letter of invitation (to study in a given site), subject to final approval by the European Commission.
* 2nd half of May 2008 : The European Commission transmits its final approval to the Coordinator and the latter sends, via mail, a final letter of acceptation with a photocopy of the aCertificate on award of Erasmus Mundus Scholarshipsa established by the Brussels Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency, that enable students to start formalities to obtain passports, visas, etca
* During July 2008 : the Coordinator sends to selected E.M. scholarship students their free of charge insurance card awarded by the European Commission.
* July/August 2008 : The Coordinator sends, via e-mail and/or mail, annual E.M. scholarship students agreements that have to be returned duly signed, before the beginning of the courses.
* September/October 2008 : Beginning of the courses and payment of the E.M. grantas first instalment, after arrival of the students and opening by them of a European bank account.
Other students - Phase 2:
aSelf sponsoreda non-EU students :
* from end of May/beginning of June 2008 : the Coordinator sends, via e-mail or mail, an official invitation to participate without a grant to the E.M. OpSciTech programme, in a given site.
* during June/July 2008 : Erasmus Mundus annual student agreements are sent and must be returned duly signed, as well as the announced tuition fees, to the Coordinator, before the beginning of the courses (September/October 2008, depending on the sites).
EU students :
* from end of June/beginning of July 2008 : official letter of invitation to participate, in a given site, to the E.M. OpSciTech programme without grant and bilateral annual E.M. student agreements that has to be returned to the Coordinator with the payment of the tuition fees, before the beginning of the courses (September or October 2008, depending on the sites).
