The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering announces the opening of registrations for the 2011 Winter School on Numerical Methods for Free-Surface Flows.

The Winter School offers two advanced two-week intensive courses:

1) Advanced Numerical Methods for Free-Surface Hydrodynamics Lecturers:
Prof. Vincenzo Casulli & Dr. Ing. Michael Dumbser, PhD January 31- February 11, 2011

2) Advanced Numerical Methods for Hyperbolic Equations and Applications Lecturers:
Prof. Eleuterio Toro, OBE & Dr. Ing. Michael Dumbser, PhD February 14-25, 2011

These courses are on accurate and robust numerical methods for the solution of time-dependent partial differential equations that govern free surface and subsurface fluid flow. The two courses cover a broad range of numerical methods, from finite difference, finite volume and discontinuous Galerkin finite element schemes up to meshless Lagrangian particle methods. The courses are designed for PhD students and young post-doc researchers working in one of the following fields: environmental engineering, computational fluid mechanics, numerical analysis and applied mathematics, and physics.

The Winter School website will be available soon. For the registration and other information (cost, lodging, etc.) write to the secretariat.
