The course introduces students to the fundamental language of design principles by working with design elements. Main aims are exercising composition, creativity and developing aesthetic skills.Visual elements like dots, lines, shape are used to discover effects and rules of design principles like proportion, movement, balance, unity, contrasts...

These principles -learned in the course by the use of two-dimensional (2D) elements- can be transferred to other designing areas. Creative visual thinking is also part of the workshop as the development of a personal way of visual interpretation. The methods are mostly black- and white techniques (ink, pen, drawing and collage).
