The domain of Open and Collaborative Governance (OCG) constitutes a multi-disciplinary scientific area, aiming to support administrations in structuring policy and delivering high quality services towards citizens and businesses in an open, collaborative way. Embracing topics such as e-Government, e-Governance, e-Participation, policy modelling and collective awareness, OCG models and practices constitute a new way of governance for administrations at any level, internationally.rnThe Summer School on Open and Collaborative Governance (egov2014 Summer School) organized by the University of the Aegean on Samos island, provides a unique opportunity for participants to interact with internationally acclaimed scientists and researchers in the domain of ICT-enabled Governance, to develop their skills in the areas of policy modelling, information management, social media in governance and more. rnThe topics covered by the e-GOV Summer School cover a wide span of information and communication technologies and social science issues, under the following thematic areas:rn-%09Open and Linked Data applications and technologiesrn-%09Global Systems Science approaches for evidence-based decision making and policy supportrn-%09Social media and web 2.0 platforms and services for governancern-%09Policy modelling and electronic policy deliberation (e-participation)rn-%09Big data management technologies in policy supportrn-%09Interoperable infrastructures and cloud technologies for open and collaborative governance scenariosrn-%09Citizens' opinion mining and sentiment analysisrn-%09Technical, semantic and organisational Interoperabilityrn-%09Legal, security and trust issues in open governancernCourses will be offered in various ways, including lectures, tutorials, collaborative workshops and round table discussions. Most importantly, the Summer School will include showcasing and hands-on experience with innovative platforms and services that are under development in a number of collaborative research projects.rnThe team of Summer School instructors has a long track in academic training, industrial research projects and scientific publications in the areas of ICT-enabled governance. and in conjunction with the mixture of the participants/students may lead to scientific papers writing and innovative project proposals.rnIn parallel with e-Gov Summer School, the 5th Samos Summit on ICT-enabled Governance, taking place the same week in Samos, will give the opportunity to Summer School participants to meet the business and scientific leaders on the domain of e-government. rn

Target group
The e-Gov summer school is open to pre- and post-graduate, MSc and PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and practitioners in the areas of Information and Communication Technologies, Management and Social Sciences. Successful candidates must show a promising academic or business track in the scientific areas of the Summer School.

Course aim
The aim of the e-Gov Summer School is to enable participants involvement in Open and Collaborative Governance issues (such as open data, croudsourcing, accurate and analytical modeling and simulation tools, data analysis, mining and visualization technologies), and offer appropriate additional skills towards shaping a successful researcher, a competitive employee and an well-informed citizen.



Credits
3.0 ECTS creditsA total of 3 ECTS points will be granted to successful participants, with the following scheme:rn1 ECTS points, through participating in the courses and the workshops / exercises.rn2 ECTS points, through completing a research paper, to be assigned during the e-GOV Summer School and delivered 6 weeks after the end of the Summer School.
