Topics

Every International Summer School on Social Banking introduces Social Banking and Finance in general and in addition focuses on a main topic; in 2011: “Money rules the world – who rules the money?”. Under this motto, we will raise awareness on our abilities to design money and by this, design society.


The following topics will be covered specifically:


- What is money?
- How does the monetary system work?
- The importance of currencies
- Financial tools (gold, paper money, digits, bonds, options, futures, etc) and their history
- Measuring social (and environmental) impact
- Growth and Size (economic growth, organisational growth/size)
- Regulation: (How) can there be a “one size fits all” banking regulation?
- Competences of “the Social Banker”: What does Social Banking look like in terms of skills and career opportunities?
- Social Banking and Social Enterprise: How is the relationship?
- Best practices of Social Banking and Social Finance
- Potential for Change

The speakers


The speakers at the International Summer School have both academic and practical background and they are pioneers in their fields. In 2011, we intend to foster even more the dialogue between “mainstream” and Social Banking.

Target Group

The International Summer School on Social Banking thrives from the creative atmosphere that is ensured by a good diversity in its participants. The interdisciplinary

- Bankers and Professionals in the Finance Sector (Conventional sector and Social Banking and Social Finance sector)
- PhD students and advanced students with a focus/interest in Social Banking and Social Finance, mainly: Economics, Social Sciences (Philosophy, Politics, Sociology, Psychology…) and Law

- Media representatives with a focus on Social Banking and Finance

- Private persons with a strong interest in the topic

Selection criteria

We will select the participants according to their

1. connection to banking and finance.



2. ability to implement changes in the sector after having attended the Summer School.

How – interactive methods

The Summer School is designed to be an incubator for change. Therefore, it is not a place for pure ex-cathedra teaching, but it also includes many creative methods such as creative lab, open space, spaces for music and arts, world café and pathfinder session.
How to apply

By December 2010, you can find an application form online on the website. Please be aware that we will select the participants based on the answers in this form.

Deadline for early-bird applications: 15 February 2011.

Fee

The participation fees can be paid in L (Great Britain Pounds) or € (Euros). As soon as we confirmed your participation, please let us know in which currency you would like to pay and we send you the respective bank account details.
The fee includes board (organic, fair trade and local where possible)!
Participants have to arrange their travel and accommodation (see logistics section below).

Professionals 1,400 L, 1.650 €

Employees of our Member Institutions 1,200 L, 1.350 €

Persons in financial needs 550 L, 650 €

- We try to provide as many scholarships as possible.
- There will also be a competition and awards for creative approaches to the topic “Money rules the world – who rules the money?”.

Scholarship / Financial aid: scholarships may be available
