Rigorous and timely financial analysis is critical for decision-makers (such as managers and investors) to make sound business decisions. Not surprisingly, the accounting information contained in financial statements is at the heart of financial analysis.


One objective of this course is to examine the role and relevancy of accounting information in the evaluation of profitability, liquidity, and riskiness of publicly traded companies. A second objective of the course is to discuss and demonstrate the role of accounting information in the formation of stock prices. Students must have a comprehensive understanding of accounting and finance.



Course aim
By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain components of stock, bond and cash valuation. Critically debate the effect of earnings management and earnings restatement on valuation. Test directly the impact of accounting earnings on stock price.Evaluate the use of financial and valuation ratios in financial statement analysis. Compare and contrast different methods of forecasting cash flows, earnings and stock price. Critically evaluate the role of sales and earnings growth in valuation.
