The course is based on a total survey error perspective and discusses the major sources of survey error. Participants will be presented with tools for prevention and adjustment for such errors. Analysis methods are introduced using both SPSS and R.
Topics include measurement error, nonresponse adjustment and analysis of incomplete data and the analysis of complex surveys that include weighting, stratification and design effects. International comparative and longitudinal surveys are included. This course is organized by the Department of Methodology and Statistics (UU) in cooperation with Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

Target group
This course is intended for advanced students and professionals in fields such as social and behavioral research, marketing, business, health sciences, and official statistics. The course aims at researchers who intend to design their own survey, but also at researchers who analyze secondary data such as the European Social Survey (ESS) or the International Social Survey Program (ISSP). This course assumes a general knowledge of survey methodology and statistics comparable to the level of the course Foundations of Survey Research or equivalent. No prior knowledge of R is assumed.

Under pressure of changes in modern society and technology, survey methodology is rapidly changing. This course aims to provide participants with state of the art knowledge and application oriented skills for modern survey design and analysis.
