The 15-Days Summer School will consist of lectures and readings, guiding visits to sites and museums, fruitful conversations with faculty and fellow students, student reports, encounters with our Greek hosts, and travel diaries will provide opportunities for students to acquire information and reflect on their experiences. Non-divers will be snorkeling.
This Course is a collaborative Summer School between - the University of the Aegean (www.aegean.gr),- the Hellenic Center of Marine Research (HCMR) - the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities of the Ministry of Education & Culture. The summer School consists of 3 parts:- 1st ONLINE MEETING on December 6, 2012- 2nd ONLINE MEETING on March 23, 2013- the actual COURSE "Aegean Marinetime Archeology Summer School" to be held on Andros island @July 1-15, 2013.

Target group
This course is designed for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students of Universities of any Faculty that offers this course on a compulsory or optional basis and/or accept the transfer of credit units of free choice courses. This is an International Program and refers to regular University syllabuses, as well as, to Continuing Education Study Abroad Programs, but also includes interested graduate individuals.
Course aim
The summer school aims at providing students with experiences on the archaeology of the Aegean Sea (insular and underwater), including contemporary finds that have reshaped current thought on issues concerning- permanent settlements instead of temporary (seasonal) habiation,- early navigation,- intercommunication, and cultural interactions, since the Holocene (~10,000 years BC), Students will be getting practical skills with modern technology of underwater prospection (sonars, magnetometry etc) for the location of shipwrecks and ancient settlements.They will also be practicing with snorkeling for scientific purposes.
Credits
7.0 ECTS credits. ECTS are awarded when fully participated in lectures, preparation/reading, onboard practicing, snorkelling, and fieldwork.Graduate students are subjected to an exam test by 14th July 2013 on the course lectures.The instructors will evaluate the exams and will take into account a) the preparatory Reports prior to this Course, as well as, b) the participation in discussions and lectures, as the basis for the final grade.
