The aim of this summer school is a comparison of selected energy security related questions from perspectives of the U.S. as well as of European Union states. The summer school will last six full working days, based on an intensive residential program.

Each day will have its own topic and will consist of several lectures on that topic. Lecturers will compare the management of selected energy security related questions from the US perspective with that of European Union states. Complementary lectures by specialists and state representatives from the Czech Republic will follow. One of the six days will be devoted to a field trip to the Temelin Nuclear Power Station.

Target group
The summer school is open to undergraduate and graduate students of International Relations, Political Science, and European studies, as well as students from technical and economic fields.

Course aim
The aim of this summer school is a comparison of selected energy security related questions from perspectives of the U.S. as well as of European Union states. The summer school will focus on topics related to the electric utility sector, such as the future of nuclear energy; the problem of the use of conventional resources in the transportation sector; the support of renewables; the coal industry and its environmental aspects; the future of smart grids and decentralization of electricity utility sector; etc. This summer school will analyze the differences and compliances of two different ways of dealing with specific energy security related issues.

4.0 ECTS credits

Course fee
CZK 7999: The fee covers educational program and materials, lecturers and management of the summer school, special events (such as field trip to the Temelin Nuclear Power Station including transportation, visit to the chateau Telc, social events etc.), full board and accommodation. Participants will have to cover travel arrangements to and from Telc, medical insurance, any visa fees, or any other expenses on their own.

Scholarships
The maximum of five scholarships are available reducing the fee to 5999 CZK. Those seeking such scholarships must send a specific scholarship request of max. 400 words along the motivation letter substantiating the claim.
