The aim of this course is to provide students with insights into the complexities of the European Market from business, corporate governance perspectives, and finance perspectives. The course is organized in three modules. Module one focuses on different European models. In Module two we will apply a broad comparative corporate governance lens to understand how doing business in Europe works. Module three focuses on European financial and economic integration and focuses specifically on European public equity market, risk management, the European banking market and the European sovereign debt crisis.

Target group
The course is meant for students and practitioners with great interest in learning the business conducts in Europe, from business, corporate governance, and finance perspectives. Students are expected to be driven by international mindsets as the topics will be discussed through the lens of comparative analysis perspectives. It is important that the students are willing to think critically why and how business models vary across Europe, why such variations matter in international economic integrations, and how businesses emerge and evolve facing the uncertainties present in the global business world. Students active participation in class discussions and other assignments is necessary for the success of the course. In short, interactive and motivated individuals with great interest in learning about business and with mindsets driven by global viewpoints will be able to best utilize the course.

Course aim
By the end of the course, students should: Have a broad understanding of the different European models. Understand and analyze different corporate governance systems in Europe; discuss the role of key European players and understand the interaction between formal and informal institutions and organizations. Be able to understand, analyze, and evaluate the organization of the EU and the European business environment. Recognize both the benefits and limitations of international trade and investment in the EU region. Understand the European public equity market. Gain insight in the risk management of European companies. Understand the risks of the European banking sector. Work successfully within groups to complete assignments and projects.
