The motivation for the course derives from the evidence that traditional managerial models are proving more and more weak because of the new paradigms that govern business in our times. In particular, a business process perspective that emphasize the strategic potential of IT innovations, appear to be necessary to grant the organization the necessary agility.
The course has the objective to prepare the students to: a) understand the strategic value of business processes also in the light of recent IT innovations and b) represent Business Process in an intuitive way using innovative methodologies and tools. Target group
Students are assumed to be familiar with the fundamentals of Organization Science (e.g.: the student is expected to be able to read an organization chart) and Strategic Management (e.g.: Porter's Value Chain), and the basics of Information Systems. No specific skills in the field of Computer Science are requested.
Course aim
At the end of the course students will have developed a general knowledge about the global trends affecting the companies and driving their ability to innovate, with a specific focus on the new managerial paradigms (e.g. sustainable capitalism, service economy, crowdsourcing).Students will develop the ability and skills to identify the critical variable to develop a plan of business process innovation, and to choose and apply appropriately a methodology for modeling business processes.
