Textile industry is a traditional and also one of the oldest branches of industry in Latvia. The first textile factory was established already in 1794. In Latvia today textile and clothing industry is a highly developed sector with modern technologies and Latvian manufacturers of textiles/clothing are one of the largest exporters of products and services. Thus, education in textiles is deep rooted and has long standing traditions in Latvia.rnThe Summer School offers a wide program consisting of lectures, workshops, presentations and discussions, company site visits, guided excursions and exciting parties.rnThe program will be conducted by local and international team - designers, artists, technologists, designing engineers and invited experts. There will be lectures on fashion and Latvian identity, ethnographic finesse, practical world and stylistics, the latest developments in the textile world, smart clothing with integrated electronic systems, 3D scanning, computer-aided design and clothing manufacture. Discussions will touch upon topics related to organization of clothing manufacture, clothing market and quality, local traditions, local resources, thus making Latvia closer and better understandable, more open to creative ideas.rnIn addition to the lecture program, short-term practical work in groups will be done providing the possibility to work with 3D scanner, do practical designing, cut out and sew the article including all the stages from a sketch to a ready product.rnThere will be an opportunity to visit Latvian clothing and textile manufacturing companies, such as Snickers, Solutions Latvia, Valmieras Stikla%9Aķiedra (glass fibre plant), and acquaint oneself with the assortment and specifics of product manufacture and realization.rnThe Summer School will be held in English.rnAt the end of the Summer School the students will present their achievement to the invited fashion industry experts. The student works will be exhibited for bigger audiences on the premises of the Centre for Creative Industries, and a summary on the Summer School will also be displayed on the virtual media.rn

Students from all over the world who are interested in fashion, clothing design, 3D design, clothing with integrated electronics, new smart textile materials and production.rnIf you will have finished at least one year of studies by the time the Summer School starts, speak fluent English, appreciate the experience of qualified professionals and enjoy creative work, you are more than welcome to join this event.
Course aim
The Summer School is going to promote contacts on international scale, friendship and interest of foreign students in Latvia, Latvian textile and clothing industry by involvement in the process of sewn textiles manufacture, discussions with local specialists and students and by understanding the situation in local industry.rn

3.0 ECTS creditsCertificate of Further Education of Riga Technical University and 3 ECTS credit points will be awarded upon completion of the program.

EUR 650[Convert to USD]The participation fee, covering registration, tuition, accommodation in student hostel of RTU, meals (breakfast and dinner) and social program is 650 euro.
