Creative Archives: Audiovisual Thinking and Montage

The course's thematic content will focus on six issues:

1) film language and audiovisual thinking,

2) the film essay,

3) the ethnographic film,

4) photography and film,

5) working in multiplatform storytelling,

6) music video.



These issues will be outlined and discussed in relation to the practical tasks and theoretical challenges they pose. The production projects will feed into these thematic clusters with experiences from the creative processes dealing with creative archives. The student will thus gain both a theoretical and historical overview of the chosen themes and attain a hands-on practical knowledge of audio-visual thinking. In short: the course will develop a thinking practice combining audio-visual skills and knowledge and archival training.

Course aim
In this course the student will gain qualifications in combining practical experiences in film production including montage and theoretical conceptual training. In the evaluation of exam performance emphasis is placed on the extent to which the student is able to demonstrate a fundamental understanding and use of key concepts connected to the archive (how to distinguish and select archival material fx), is able to document knowledge of relevant research methods and creative paths in the field chosen, is able to pinpoint and reflect upon ideas emerging from the creative process and propose ways in which ideas can substantiate or generate new concepts.

Course fee
EUR 0: Students on a bilateral exchange programme do not have to pay. Freemovers are obliged to pay participation fees while tuition fees only apply to freemovers from countries outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland.
