Industrial Design Center is an open research-through-design-lab. It's a communication platform between the industry and the product design education programs offered at Howest University College. Its annual, 5-day, hands-on international summer school is meant for young professionals and those about to graduate who have a passion for creation, co-creation and materialization of ideas.
Are you interested in trying out different prototyping techniques such as quick & dirty prototyping for idea generation, laser cutting, 3D printing, finishing techniques for 3D models, wood turning, welding techniques, plastic shaping processes, textile experiments, product photography, foam modeling and arduino electronics? Be prepared for an enjoyable, intensive week in which you are coached by professionals.

Target group
This Summer School is addressed to young professionals, graduates, students and PhD-students from several creative-technical disciplines, including: industrial / civil engineering, product design, architecture mechanical design, applied arts, interaction design.
Course aim
Its the Industrial Design Centers belief that prototyping is a process in which a working model or prototype is developed for the purpose of testing various design aspects like features, ideas, viability, functionality, tactility, output and performance. Prototyping can help streamline creative (design) processes.Our main topics: Variety of prototyping techniques, The development of a critical & creative attitude towards prototyping, The ability to communicate with prototypes, The understanding of a hands-on prototyping methodology. After the summer school you will have a broad view on prototyping and its many application fields.
