"Literature is a country", says Clark Blaise, the Canadian writer and former Director of the famous International Writing Program in Iowa. Literature is an international meeting-place, and poetry is a universal language. In this course, the student will improve her/his own literary writing skills through reading and writing exercises.Writing: Among the many genres to be explored, the main focus will be on poetry and short prose.Reading: Poems, and short prose, by famous European writers, both contemporary and from literary history.Extra: Dutch contemporary poets. Note: English translations provided.Contact hours: 30 plus excursions (poetry evenings/events)Assignments: 15Total study load: approximately 45 hours.
