The aim of this course is to unpack the notion of "human security" both conceptually and through empirical examples which focus specifically on human security in relation to natural and man-made crises. Through case studies drawn from recent conflicts and catastrophes in different areas of the world, the course seeks to understand themes of human insecurity (e.g. its socio-cultural and ontological aspects), gendered violence and health-related issues.


Furthermore, it explores different local and international responses to challenges posed by contemporary wars, conflicts and humanitarian actions. Course offered by Department of Anthropology, Archaeology and Linguistics, AU.

The course is open to students with a BA in anthropology, social science or related disciplines from Denmark or elsewhere.



Course aim
In the evaluation of the student's exam performance, special emphasis is placed on evaluating the extent to which the student- displays an insight into specific theories, problem frameworks and/or methodological approaches within the subject area of the elective subject. - demonstrates an understanding of the transformation of the individual theories and/or methods into concrete analyses of society and culture as well as the consequences any given method of analysis has for the final result.
