The University of the Arts Berlin offers a three-day seminar that focuses on the German music market with particular emphasis on recent developments in the recording industry, new marketing strategies, and licensing models. The lectures will cover the business, legal and media issues affecting independent record releasing, concert booking and artist promotion, including the changes brought about by the to digital media.

The workshop will also encourage the participants to network with experts and exchange ideas with each other.Germany is the biggest music market in Europe and the third largest in the world behind United States and Japan. The highly developed infrastructure of the music and media market is considered one of the greatest competitive advantages Germany has to offer.

Planned lecturers include executives from Universal Music Entertainment, Deutsche Grammophon, BMG Rights Management, Berlin Music Week as well as experts from institutions such as the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin), German Federal Music Industry Association (BVMI), Association of Independent Record Companies, Music Publishers and Music Producers (VUT), German Music Publishers Association (DMV), and Federal German Association for the Promoters and Event Business (bdv).




The seminar

The Business of Music in Germany is geared towards independent record labels, music publishers and managers as well as songwriters and artists looking to succeed in the German music market.

The course runs from September 2nd to 4th in order to coincide with the annual Berlin Music Week, an international meeting and marketplace with conferences and live performances. A perfect complement to the seminar, Berlin Music Week provide another opportunity to continue networking and to explore Berlin's living and vibrant music scene.The seminar emerged from the successful certificate course "DigiMediaL_musik" at the University of the Arts Berlin that has trained more than 250 musicians, recording artists and music managers in social web strategic marketing since 2009.
