The course aims to explore business innovation in the context of digital economies, discussing how changes in Information and Communication Technology are affecting the way organisations do businesses, e.g. the way new business models and products (goods and services) emerge. From this broad perspective, the course focuses particularly on exploring the role of social media in organisations, understanding their relevance for communication and collaboration within and across the boundaries of companies.

In this course, students are to learn:
- The relevance of ICT in business innovation in digital economies
- The strategies adopted by major organisations in using ICT, focusing on social media
- How social media may improve communication and collaboration
- How companies are using social media for adding value
- The risks and obstacles for obtaining benefits from social media
After the course, the students should be able to:
- Identify key factors which are relevant for business innovation in digital economies
- Understand how social media may enable communication and collaboration
- Design social media strategies for particular organisational objectives and resources
- Plan responsible social media adoption taking into consideration benefits and risks
- Explore the potential business applications of other social media tools
