Digital Methods Summer School Programme

Every year, the Digital Methods Initiative (DMI) organises, as part of the University of Amsterdam Summer School, an intensive summer programme in which students learn and develop Internet research techniques for studying societal conditions and cultural change. Participants actively engage in empirical research projects, employing Web-specific software tools, such as scrapers and crawlers. The Summer School concludes with a final event where the research projects are presented. This year's Digital Methods Summer School is devoted to the remote analysis of events. Indeed there is a growing literature (in the Summer School's reader) on the relationship between social media and events, often focusing on conflicts, disasters as well as political elections. But what do events look like online, and how does one follow them analytically?
