Digital storytelling is the practice of using computer-based tools to create stories. It allows students to jointly create and share their stories and experiences outside the traditional written form, using their imagination, creativity and cultural experiences. The current trend is to engage students in digital story making/telling activities that will stimulate them to become digital story tellers, thus helping them acquire multidisciplinary skills. The objective of this course is to familiarize the participants on how to use digital storytelling techniques in classroom. The course will provide an in-depth analysis of digital storytelling, as well as hands-on experiences with the tools that are commonly used in creating digital stories, giving practical examples and analyzing case studies. Under this scope, the participants will be able to create their own stories incorporating standalone tools and web applications into their everyday activities and, at the same time, encouraging students to become digital story creators too.No programming skills are required. Target group
Our Summer School is addressed to PhD, MSc and undergraduate students with educational or ICT studies. It is also addressed to educators that want to integrate digital storytelling in their teaching activities. ICT professionals that want to get involved in the development of educational software are also welcome to attend the Summer School.

Course aim
In order to utilize the full potential of digital narratives, certain teaching strategies are required. Also, a number of issues are raised such as: Which are the available tools for the development of digital narratives. What types of digital storytelling are available and how they are used in teaching How to familiarize students and teachers with the development of digital narratives What types of learning activities can be used in conjunction with digital storytelling in general and for each particular subject. All these topics will be discussed in our summer school.The expected learning outcomes of the Summer School are participants to: Gain a deeper understanding of the theoretical and practical issues of digital storytelling. Be aware of the various theories concerning the educational use of digital stories. Know strategies for evaluating digital or traditional stories. Understand the advantages that traditional or digital storytelling provide as an educational activity. Be able to analyze the moral and ethical dimensions of the narrative, especially the autobiographic storytelling. Cultivate creativity, analytical and critical thinking, to create original narratives. Develop the necessary skills in using developing tools for creating digital stories-narratives. Be able to critically examine the various applications of information technology and in particular the various kinds of digital storytelling. To understand the concepts and methodologies of collecting, creating and editing of multimedia content such as images, audio and video. Be aware of good practices and strategies in writing and developing digital stories. Enrich their stories with interactive elements and events. Create lesson plans that contain the digital narrative.
