In the course 'Discover Dutch: Dutch Language and Culture', you will learn to speak and understand the Dutch language at a basic level (CEFR A1). The course is very interactive in nature. Part of the lessons will take place in our state of the art digital language lab. You will work on your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, including vocabulary and grammar. During classes you will work with video, audio and computer software, where you will for example simulate a telephone conversation.'Discover Dutch' is not only a language course,however. You will also learn about Dutch culture and society. The cultural part of the course will -for example- explore: what is typical about Dutch culture? About its buildings, politics, art, literature,economics, technology or its people. In which respects are the Netherlands comparable to other countries, in which respects are the differences impossible to miss? And what are the reasons? How is the Netherlands connected to other countries?

For students of all disciplines. Dutch Language and Culture is interesting for every international student who is interested to learn (more) about Dutch language, culture, history and society. It is particularly of interest to students with a Dutch heritage, or studentsconsidering a study or career in the Netherlands
Course aim
The achieved level will be CEFR level A1. At the end of this course you will be able to use some general expressions and form basic sentences. For example, you will be able to introduce yourself, ask and respond to (simple) questions and order a drink.The cultural part of the course will allow you to get to know the Dutch and their culture within an international context.
Credits
3.0 ECTS creditsECTS is the standard European credit system, each ECTS credit is equivalent to 28 study hours. All courses are worth 3 ECTS. Because some education systems (such as the American universities) base their credits on contact hours, we have included the contact hours in the course description on our website.
Course fee
EUR 1200[Convert to USD]The tuition fee of this course is 1200,- and includes furnished accommodation and the orientation programme. If you select two consecutive courses and study with us for four weeks, you will receive a 10% discount on the second course fee.Some courses will include excursions. We will also organize trips and excursions as part of our social programme, which is a great way to get to know your fellow students and learn more about Amsterdam and the Netherlands. The social programme is not included in the tuition fee.
