Elites are key actors of social events. The course highlights how social sciences can study them. It introduces students into the theoretical foundations and empirical sources of elite research. Methodological issues as well as new international comparative findings of elite studies will be presented. Among others the following topics will be discussed:

- Sampling methods of elite studies

- Long term changes in elite recruitment and education
- Elected and selected elites

- Business elites: bankers, managers entrepreneurs
