Defining what a budding entrepreneur needs to know, consider and decide before starting an e-commerce site, this course will introduce you to the fundamentals of 'Doing Business Online', the planning process, developing a marketing strategy, and understanding technology needs.It will help you decide how to get the word out about your product or service and how to maintain good relationships with customers/clients using Social Media.
In other words, you'll explore the tricks and tools that make 'Doing Business Online' successful.Using case studies, entrepreneurial self-assessment models, peer assessment exercises and external visits to Web 2.0 entrepreneurs to back up group and individual project work, you will focus on entrepreneurial skills and relevant e-Business and e-Commerce concepts and theories. You'll quickly understand the e-business environment and be able to apply the key models of online business.As a student, you'll also have the opportunity to use the lessons you've learned from the course to develop your own online business idea.
This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of 'Online Business', the planning process, developing a marketing strategy, understanding the technology needs, highlighting what a budding entrepreneur needs to know, consider and decide before starting an e-commerce site.
This course will also cover the following topics:
- E-business fundamentals;
- How to recognise an e-commerce or e-business opportunity;
- The importance of understanding the e-business environment;
- How to develop e-business strategies and models;
- Methods of e-marketing planning;
- The importance of multi-channel marketing;
- Introduction to website design and online branding;
- The importance of customer relationship management;
- How to manage managing e-business operations;
- The future of e-business.

Target group
Students who wish to learn how to conduct business online to identify and pursue e-commerce and e-business opportunities, and who want to know how to develop their own e-commerce site would benefit from this course.
Course aim
By the end of the course you will be expected to be able to understand the e-business environment, apply the key models of online business that have emerged to date and able to appreciate the characteristics of the various online channels, (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn) now available to marketers.
