Welcome to e.media 2011, the second InternationalSummer School on Media Informatics and Computer Graphics. It will be held in Friedberg, Germany, a historical town located in a beautifularea, about 30 minutes outside of the internationalcity of Frankfurt, organized by the TH Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences.
High Dynamic Range Rendering (HDRR) is an exciting computer graphics technique, oftenused for producing advertisement and movies. HDRR is the rendering of 3d virtualscenes by using real photographs for the lighting calculations. This allows the creationof extremly realistic looking renderings.Sometimes also called High Dynamic Range Lighting, HDRR is a special Image Based Lighting (IBL) technique in computer graphicsto illuminate a virtual scene.
It uses imageswith a wide dynamic range of luminancesinstead of standard light shapes such as point lights, area lights and spot lights.During two weeks of lectures, practical laboratorywork and excursions e.media 2011 will cover both theory and practice of all aspects of High Dynamic Range Rendering including:
- story boarding and taking photographs;
- creation of HDR images;
- image based lighting of 3d virtual scenes and rendering.

Target group
e.media 2011 particularly addresses all bachelor students in the upper semester levels of media informatics and related programs such as media design or media technology. However, anyone may apply who is curious, committed and enthusiastic enough to learn more about the topic. Nevertheless, you should have good English skills and some basic experiencesin photography and 3d modeling (Maya, 3ds Max, XSI or Blender).
Course aim
What you get: A combination of interesting lectures, workshops,case studies and framework program, such as guided tours to our cultural favorites, cities and a famous research institute (FraunhoferIGD). Excellent learning conditions: small group of 16 students, state-of-the-art computer lab 4 ECTS credits (official certificate awarded aftersuccessful completion of the course) Two weeks in one of the most beautiful regions of Germany, nearby the international city of Frankfurt.
