Trust comes by foot and leaves by horse! Since the outbreak of the financial crisis in 2008 there is a growing concern of policy makers, business, and scientists about the impact the destruction of interpersonal and institutional trust has on economic recovery.

This course deals with this issue by offering an introduction to the economics and management of trust. Developing a conceptual and theoretic framework allows to analyze systematically the determinants of interpersonal and institutional trust and their relationships on a micro and macro level.

The first part of the course consists of a presentation and discussion of a multidisciplinary economics approach to interpersonal and institutional trust in competitive market-economies. The second part focuses on the management of trust in profit and non-profit organizations. Management of trust becomes a crucial issue if decision makers have to decide under uncertainty and asymmetric information between decision makers exists. The course pays attention to intercultural trust
