Economics of bee pollination as ecosystem service

This follow-up course will focus on a selected problem concerning the pollination of a specific crop in a particular area. Pollination requirements of the crop and the foraging behavior of potential pollinators will be studied to analyze the claims concerning the role of identifiable pollinators. Through the scientific reading of primary literature and the simultaneous integration of the course instructions students may be challenged to formulate conclusions. The resulting recommendations can lead to a better understanding and conceivably to adoption of bee pollination as an important category of ecosystem services.

Target group
This course is only open to students who have completed the course "Why we need bees?". MSc-students and PhD-students. Also open for advanced BSc-students.This course may be attractive to students of Science, Biology, Agronomy, Economy and Environmental studies.

Course aim
This is a follow-up of the basic course "Why we need bees" and may serve as a bridge to the course Behavioural ecology of native bees in the tropics in Costa Rica.
