Every year, a number of students who are not native English speakers but who would like to join the International Summer Schools tell us that they would really appreciate the chance to improve or refresh their English language skills beforehand. We now have a solution.

The University of Cambridge is offering an exciting new opportunity for students from around the world to improve their English language skills with a unique and intensive programme. On our four-week English for Academic Purposes programme you will be able to develop your listening and discussion skills in practical classroom sessions, and then make immediate use of these new skills by immersion in one of the University of Cambridge Summer Schools. You spend the first two weeks at the University of Cambridge Language Centre, studying on an intensive, personalised programme with others who are equally keen to hone their existing language ability.

Then, with your newly-improved listening and discussion skills, you spend the next two weeks as a student on the University of Cambridge Summer Schools, joining people of all ages and all nationalities, and choosing courses which best match your interests. This twinning of language skill training and practical application to an academically-challenging International Summer School has double value: participating in the Summer School will consolidate your learning in the intensive language-skills training, and those new language skills will increase your confidence - and your enjoyment - of the Special Subject courses you choose for the final two weeks. A 'win-win' situation.
