This course gives an introduction to management in the cultural field in Europe. You study theories and practices that demonstrate the value of management for the arts. The life of established arts organisations depends on the right strategic financial and organisational decisions. Also, art managers need organisational and innovation skills to keep their businesses running. Managing the arts asks for insight in the typical characteristics of cultural and creative organisations, in creative processes, in dealing with cultural identity and target groups.

Course aim
After this course students will have a global insight in basic theories in arts management theory and practice. They will visit Dutch arts organisations, and gain a new insight in how things work behind the scenes. Students who have their own art practice will have gained management know-how and skills
