Beginners 1. This program is aimed at enabling oral communication in the most common and important situations of everyday life during a short stay in France. Consequently grammar will not be a priority. The students will be given practical "survival tools", simple structures and basic vocabulary in order to become more autonomous, to understand and make themselves understood by French-speaking people.

The stress will be put on interactivity and group work. Situations:

- Introducing oneself and others.

- Speaking about one's tastes and hobbies.

- Giving one's opinion.

- Agreeing, disagreeing.

- Asking for directions, giving directions.

- Travelling around and in Paris: using metro, RER maps, understanding schedules, buying tickets%85 - Shopping.

- Going out: restaurant, cinema%85

- Using authentic documents: train schedules, magazines like "l'Officiel des Spectacles" for outings, general information on shows, exhibitions%85 Grammar points: - Present and past tenses of common verbs.

- Prepositions.

- Possessives.

- Spelling and intonation: The French alphabet, phonetics.

- Giving /asking for telephone numbers.

- Giving a date and time.

- Introducing oneself: name, age, nationality.

- Expressing one's feelings and wishes "j'ai faim/chaud%85"; "je suis fatigue"%85

- Shopping: Asking for an article and a price.

- Asking for directions.

- Going to the restaurant

2/Vocabulary:

- At home: rooms, furniture.

- Common items: "portable, agenda, cles%85"

- Food.

- Meals and kitchen utensils.

- At the restaurant.

- Common verbs 3/Grammar:

- Genders: masculine/feminine words.

- Future: intentions around the verb "to go".

- Past tense of -er verbs.



- Conditional "je voudrais".

- Prepositions to tell where things are.

The students will be given practical tools, useful structures and vocabulary in order to exploit what they already know and become more autonomous, to understand and make themselves understood by French-speaking people.

The stress will be put on interactivity and group work. Situations:

- Introducing oneself.

- Asking for and giving time.

- Inviting, making appointments.

- Telephoning.

- Shopping.

- Ordering in a restaurant.

- Asking for and giving directions.

Grammar: To be/ to have, Interrogative sentences and pronouns, Main tenses.

Intermediate and upper intermediate. This programm is aimed at improving oral skills: communication and comprehension. Grammatical structures will be explained according to the group's needs and always included in interactive work. The students will be given practical tools, useful structures and vocabulary in order to become more fluent and confident in their ability to cope with daily situations. Various cultural topics about France and the French will be developed.

Themes:

- Introducing oneself and others.

- Shopping.

- Describing people and one's family.

- Telling stories in the past, memories.

- Idioms: familiar French in everyday situations.

- Love.

- Daily activities.

- Expressing feelings.

- Talking about the future.

Grammar points: Past and future tenses, Relatives, Subjunctive.

Target group
Upper level undergraduate and graduate students.

Course aim
All classes aim to make our students understand and speak as much French as possible in and out of class! The stress is therefore put on oral activities more than written work. According to their track (IT, Management, Designing games, Cultural Awareness) the students will do 20 to 32 hours of French. The French classes take place 5 afternoons a week from 1.30 to 3.30. There are 6 to 8 groups according to level. A final test will review all the points learnt in class. Each student is given a report assessing attendance, progress, participation with the grade obtained at the final test and a general comment by their teachers.
