The Frontiers in Modern Optics Summer School will be held from 30 June-5 July 2014 as part of the Enrico Fermi International Summer School Series. The Enrico Fermi International Summer School is one of the most celebrated events of its kind and has counted amongst its attendees several Nobel Prize winners. This prestigious event will be held at Villa Monastero, in Varenna, on the shores of Como's Lake (Italy). We have assembled a rich program of topics including nonlinear optics, optical filamentation, nanophotonics, supercontinuum physics, novel aspects of light propagation, optical communications, frequency combs, optical trapping and quantum optics. The lessons will be delivered by world leaders in their research areas: Robert Boyd; Demetrios Christodoulides; Arnaud Couairon; Alexander Gaeta; Goery Genty; Ulf Leonhardt; Michal Lipson; David Richardson; Gunter Steinmeyer; Thomas Udem; Miles Padgett and Anton Zeilinger as keynote speaker.Lectures will be at intermediate to advanced level, aimed at PhD students, early-career researchers and of course, all others interested in meeting leading experts and in such a wonderful environment. The financial support of this event from the Italian Physical Society allows us to offer the scholars to attend the school for a reduced fee of 900 euros, which includes all lectures, accommodation costs, and all meals for the full duration of the School (travel is not included). In case of financial difficulties, students may ask for further financial help. Scholarships are limited and fixed every year according to the needs and financial possibilities. Half or partial scholarships may also be considered.Since the attendee's number is limited to 60, we invite you to apply early (deadline for application: April 15th, 2014)! The applicants are required to submit a support letter testifying their qualification, interest and adequate preparation to follow the courses. Furthermore, students are invited to present a poster during the school and are welcome to submit an abstract.
