This unique collaborative programme allows students to study at two high quality European universities under the umbrella of one summer programme. The Global Citizenship Summer School offers students from around the world the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary enquiry into global citizenship in a dynamic bi-national, multicultural classroom.
The programme consists of two collaborative modules through which students will explore the concept of global citizenship, develop a broader understanding of contemporary issues of global significance, and have the opportunity to work on a number of different interdisciplinary projects. A series of excursions to museums, cultural events, and sites of interest is embedded as a core component of this highly participatory programme.Students will spend the first half of the programme completing a two weeks-in residence module at City University London, titled "Global Citizenship: Conceptual Foundations and Topical Issues".
In the London module students will explore a number of contemporary global issues, examine what it means to be a global citizen, and consider if and how globalization and the global nature of our contemporary world have changed the responsibilities of citizens.Following the London portion of the program, students will travel to Utrecht University where they will complete a second two weeks-in residence module.
The Utrecht module, titled "Global Citizenship in a European Context", will focus on issues of global citizenship, cultural participation and transnational forms of citizenship and identity in a specifically European context. This module is taught with an emphasis on diverse forms of communication, including new and digital media, museums, film, television, photography and everyday media useThis course is open to students from universities all over the world and from all disciplines.
The Global Citizenship Summer School is an intensive academic programme through which students will develop a broader understanding of contemporary issues of global significance, and will be asked to consider what it means to be a global citizen on many different levels. The classes are highly interactive, allowing students to participate in discussions, engage in debates, participate in class excursions, undertake a group project and present their findings to the class.

Target group
This programme is designed to convene a diverse group of international undergraduates from within as well as outside of Europe to explore various aspects of global citizenship. Open to undergraduates and Masters students from all disciplinary backgrounds.
Course aim
The aim of this programme is to introduce students to the concept of global citizenship, develop a broad understanding of key issues of global significance, and explore different perspectives of those issues. Students will consider the importance and meaning of cultural participation, individual responsibility, and collective action in a globalized world and will develop their own conception of what it means to be a global citizen.
