Global Health is a field that comprises health issues affecting low-and middle- income countries and deals with health challenges transcending national boundaries. Due to the globalizing world, these challenges become more and more complex. To deal with this complexity, disciplines that used to work on a solitary basis now have to work together and the collaboration of multiple stakeholders is imperative. A two-way flow between developed and developing countries to be mutually benefitting with regards to sources, expertise, and knowledge is aimed for.These combined learning processes can potentially generate effective and innovative solutions for global health systems and the health problems encountered. This course provides a general overview of all aspects involved in global health, such as the growingcomplexity of the burden of disease, mainchallenges of infectious and chronic diseases, health systems, and key (inter)national actors in this field. Through our involvement in the Amsterdam Institute of Global Health and Development (AIGHD) we have an extensive network of partners and experts in health and related fields. Interesting guest lecturerswill be invited who bring in expert knowledge on diverse topics, such as on mental health, urban health, and migrant health. With this knowledge the student is challenged tothink critically about health related issues around the world.

Target group
The course Global Health is an interesting course for students with diverse BSc backgrounds, who are motivated to gain moreinsight in complex health problems in an international context.

Course aim
On successful completion of the course, students will have achieved the following:- A critical knowledge on local and global issues regarding health- An interdisciplinary approach to health and disease related problems around the world- Skills to collaborate with peers of different disciplines- Know how to obtain reliable and critical data to develop a topic of discussion- Written skills to bring into debate topics related to the international health field



Credits
3.0 ECTS creditsECTS is the standard European credit system, each ECTS credit is equivalent to 28 study hours. All courses are worth 3 ECTS. Because some education systems (such as the American universities) base their credits on contact hours, we have included the contact hours in the course description on our website.

Course fee
EUR 1200[Convert to USD]The tuition fee of this course is 1200,- and includes furnished accommodation and the orientation programme. If you select two consecutive courses and study with us for four weeks, you will receive a 10% discount on the second course fee. Some courses will include excursions. We will also organize trips and excursions as part of our social programme, which is a great way to get to know your fellow students and learn more about Amsterdam and the Netherlands. The social programme is not included in the tuition fee.
