The UK is home to some of the world's most fashionable milliners. On this practical three-week course, our tutors will help you explore your creativity using traditional tools and contemporary techniques to make a series of hats. We'll introduce you to the craft and history of hat making and send you away with different styles of hat you've designed and made yourself.Our course tutors will give you an insight in to the history of hats and current fashions. Over the three weeks you'll use different materials to create a range of hats that you design, assemble, line, trim and finish. •In week one, you'll construct, size and shape a hat using a straw capeline. We'll show you techniques used to stiffen your hat and make the brim. •In week two, you'll choose felt for your hat and the select a hat block to shape your design. We'll even show you how to make your own hat blocks.•In week three, you'll use buckram which you wire and cover with scrim before covering and binding the edges.

You dont need any millinery or specialist sewing experience, just an interest in hats and a desire to improve your practical skills and millinery knowledge.AUB Summer Courses are open to all those aged 17 or over at the time of taking the course. Our summer courses are attended by school leavers, university students and creative professionals wishing to up-skill or change careers.

There are laundry facilities within each building, payphones, lockable storage lockers and secure swipe key systems to enter the building. Our campus is patrolled 24 hours a day by our onsite security team.
