Health Sciences: The Art of Research

Are you convinced that specific aspects of healthcare or public health can be improved, but not sure how to substantiate this with practical research? Then this is the course for you!This course will start with a specific research topic of your choosing. Under the individual guidance of health scientists specialised in epidemiology and biostatistics, you will learn how to transform your topic into a research question and research design. You discuss your progress with the teacher(s) during each class.Throughout the course, teachers from the Department of Health Evidence and the Radboud Institute for Health Sciences will teach you the basics of research methodology and biostatistics. This will be supplemented with lectures and/or computer assignments on:- transforming your problem into a research question- researching the available literature for existing evidence- investigating occurrence, association and impact parameters- exploring study designs- understanding validity and efficiency- analysing etiological, diagnostic, prognostic and treatment efficacy studiesThe course will end with a written exam.

Target group
For master and PhD students in medicine, molecular life sciences, biology or similar. For those who want to study health sciences research questions in (clinical) practice. A background in epidemiology or biostatistics is not required, but students should be interested in healthcare, public health and clinical research. After completing the course, (inter)national students can apply for the MSc program in Biomedical Sciences at Radboud University (pending a relevant BSc and language skills).
