Instructional design applications can be seen in all institutes of (higher) education. During this course we will discover how design models and theoretical notions can be used to develop instructional methods that help us achieve specific learning goals. We will also discuss several learning and instruction concept and how they relate to different design models. These notions will then be used to develop learning material. During the course, you will gain insight into how your own notions and beliefs on learning and instruction influence the designs you apply in your education. The course is divided into practical sessions and theoretical sessions. During the practical sessions, you will be asked to justify your design choices by drawing on the theoretical concepts you learned. This assignment will be done in collaborative groups of three to four international students.This course consists of lectures, group discussions, workshops and collaborative group work. You will be expected to actively participate in literature reviews during group meetings and apply the theoretical notions you learned during a group project. The projects will be presented and discussed during plenary sessions. The course will end with a group paper that describes the theoretical concepts to justify your design choice.

Target group
The course is designed for Bachelor students, at the second or third year of their bachelor program, and for students as a preparation for a Master's degree program, e.g. Educational Ethics or Philosophy of Behavioral Science. The course is also designed for Master students from abroad and for teachers.

After this course you will be able to:1. Discuss the relationship between learning theories and instructional design2. Evaluate and discuss instructional material based on learning theories and design theories3. Transform theoretical knowledge into practical applications in order to develop learning material4. Present on your newfound knowledge verbally and in writing
