The European Virtual Centre of Excellence HUMANIST (Human Centred Design for Information Society Technologies) organises training courses, scientific workshops and summer schools for professionals in the area of road transport and information and communication technology. In the Humanist summer school 2012 "Intelligent Transport Systems: Human Centred Design for Safe and Eco Mobility", lecturers from European research centres will share their knowledge on safety and eco mobility to give tools and methods for Human centred design of ITS.
Discussions and practical exercises will allow participants to be involved in an active way and to learn main key aspects dealing with acceptability, usability and safety of information and communication technology uses and practices for a greener and safer road transport. The course aims at:- Find out issues covered by research on systems design for safe and sustainable mobility in road transport- Gain knowledge on needs and requirements of population in order to design user friendly systems for vehicle, powered-two wheels and bus- Explore tools and methods for evaluating safety of systems use while driving- Debate on priorities between several issues such as road safety, eco mobility, design for all.

Nikolaou, CERTH/HIT)Practical exercises in small groups on safety and driver specificities (older, novice, professional) and on safety per vulnerable road user type (pedestrians, children, cyclists, riders)Videos of research experiments on the real road, discussion about processes, constraints and knowledge gathered in research. Measurement methods and techniques for evaluating ITS with respect to safety-relevant criteria (J. Krems, CUT) o Demonstration and try-out of different techniques, such as occlusion. o Exercises in small groups on how to evaluate different systemsEco-driving methods and training (S.
