This course is intensive and is intended for dedicated, highly self-motivated students who will take responsibility for their learning and creation of meaning with their peers. In comparison to the semi-intensive course, you will indeed work with the same materials and textbook. However, you will be able to improve your German competence, expand your vocabulary and deepen your overall knowledge of German much faster.

This course is designed to strengthen and expand your communicative competence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing and to deepen your understanding of German-speaking cultures. The textbook Begegnungen A2 in conjunction with current culture-rich supplemental materials offers a balanced approach to developing your individual language competencies. One of the foci of this course is Berlin and the region. Therefore, authentic material will be increasingly used in the course and during the weekly course-related excursions.

Period
16-07-2011 - 13-08-2011 (4 weeks)

Target group
Beginner 2

Course aim
By the end of the four-week course you will be able to handle a variety of day-to-day needs in a German-speaking setting and engage in simple conversations about topics pertinent to you. You can expect to be able to order food and beverages, purchase things, and rent a hotel room. You will become familiar with the German university system, the Arts, media, and current social topics. You will begin to be able to talk about the past and the future, make comparisons, and describe people and things in increasing detail. Furthermore, you will be able to talk about your studies and about your dreams and aspirations. You will develop reading strategies that should allow you to understand the general meaning of articles and short literary texts. You will develop writing strategies allowing you to focus on self-correction and to incorporate nuanced vocabulary. In addition, you will feel more able to understand information when you hear German speakers talking about topics familiar to you.
