The ability to communicate effectively and appropriately across cultures is highly valued in today's global labour market. Some refer to this ability as intercultural competence others prefer the term global competencies. In this highly interactive summer course both approaches will be explored both in terms of the theory and in its practical application.

The course will include topics such as understanding cultural value differences and commonalities; team work and cooperation across cultures; communication and negotiation styles; nonverbal communication and face work. As part of the programme we have created the opportunity for all participants to participate in two instruments that are frequently used to assess intercultural competence. The Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) focuses on the level of intercultural competence, personals strength in communicating across cultures and offers suggestions for additional development.

The Intercultural Effectiveness Scale (IES) offers participants an insight in the competences that facilitate cross cultural communication and development of intercultural competence. Participation in the IDI and the IES is voluntary. We recommend however you participate in both as this is expected to maximize your outcome of the programme. Both instruments will be debriefed individually and confidentially during the programme Jeanine Gregersen, who is fully licensed and qualified for both instruments.
