London:This introductory/intermediate course of study is aimed at individuals who may be considering or are already working in a retail head office spatial, space planning or design role or an independent retail owner.The course will focus on analysis and design of London based retail brands. Students will examine histories of key British retail interiors, merchandise presentation, current interior styles and application of design principles through a brand based design brief. Through guided project work the student will learn and apply planning of retail space and styling, from both practical and commercial perspectives, fixturing choices and detailing of Point of Sale and merchandise presentation.Environmental visits will focus on brand representation, lighting, layout, longevity and materiality. Research, sketching, scale space planning and modelmaking workshops aim to enable each student to present a retail interior proposal by the end of this London based short course. This final design outcome will be one of conceptual development using 2D and 3D methodologies backed up by primary and secondary research into current and past trends.Barcelona:The course will focus on issues directly connected with commercial spaces in its various variants and scales.It aims to work directly with two exercises - existing trademark, and innovative strategies regarding the conception and definition of the brand itself, and its translation into retail space and / or exhibition.It runs in parallel with different disciplines related to design and architecture, such as film, photography, art, music and technology as well as the actual implementation in work processes that are required to develop projects related to Interior Design for Retail.Guided tours are offered at several commercial spaces of special interest in Barcelona, which will address specific study cases and specific with industry professionals.
