Creative Writing Join the Summer School for an intense, three-week residential writing course supported by Warwick's Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning (IATL). Each week students will be introduced to practical techniques for writing in a particular genre: prose, poetry and screen & radio.Our tutors are all professional, practicing writers, with experience of working in the creative industries.

They will lead a series of workshops, master classes and one to one tutorials over the module. Students will also have a chance to participate in guest sessions with some of the Warwick Writing Programme's internationally renowned authors.You will have 48 contact hours in the form of lectures, seminars and practical workshops including support with writing for academic purposes.

The programmes will be taught by distinguished Warwick academics and their tutorial teams and will be supplemented by specialist guest speakers who will be leaders in their fields.As well as challenging academic study, there is an exciting social diary including a Welcome BBQ, a farewell Gala Dinner and trips to famous tourist destinations including London, Oxford and a theatre trip to nearby Stratford upon Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare.

Target group
Primarily, the course is for students who have a passion for writing and an open mind about working in different genres. While the module caters for a full range of learning styles, you are expected to read and write on a daily basis, for three weeks, and produce a substantial body of work for assessment. Passion, drive and a high level of competency in written English are essential.It is an opportunity for students wishing to work with professional writers for the first time to explore their writing in a structured environment; and it is a chance for students with prior experience of creative writing to refresh their skills and work with new influences.Our programme will be taught in the innovative Writers' Room- a unique learning space and home of the Warwick Writing Programme.

Course aim
Students will have received a thorough and reflective training in the art of creative writing across a number of genres; they will have been inspired and challenged, by tutors and by themselves; they will have enhanced their confidence and ability in each genre with a range of writing styles, techniques and approaches; and they will have developed a unique understanding of how to translate techniques across genres.Students will be able to:Work in a wide range of forms of poetry, prose and scriptwriting.

Appreciate the diversity of contemporary writing strategies, including a range of literary movements.Understand a range of strategies for expanding their technical ability in prose, poetry and scriptwriting.Verbally articulate constructive critical feedback on their own work and that of their peers.Make productive links between theoretical ideas and practical applications, and appreciate the value of learning through workshop performance.Show a greater understanding of professional environments and practice.Demonstrate a greater understanding of rigour and clarity in academic writing.



Credits
7.5 ECTS credits

Credit is given at the discretion of the students home institution. Students wishing to gain credit need to talk to their Study Abroad Office or academic advisor before enrolling. We suggest that a three week course is equivalent to 15 CATS, 7.5 ECTS or 5 US credits and are happy to provide details of the syllabus and assessments.

Course fee
GBP 1500: The Summer School tuition fee will be 1500 and this includes the social programme but does not include accommodation. Also not included in the academic fee are travel to and from the UK, passport or visa costs, insurance, personal expenses such as food, laundry or telephone calls and optional trips off campus.We would recommend that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance to cover the duration of your stay.Payment can be made with a credit card, through a bank transfer or banker's draft in Pounds Sterling once you have received your letter of acceptance.

GBP 399: If you require accommodation, as a Warwick ISS student, you will be living in modern accommodation at the centre of campus: the Rootes residences provide pleasant student accommodation with great facilities, including high speed network/internet access.
