The Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Ioannina organises in collaboration with the "Border Crossings" network of academics and the Municipality of Konitsa, the 5th "Summer School in Anthropology, Ethnography and Comparative Folklore of the Balkans" in the town of Konitsa in the period 28/7-12/8 2010.
Eligible applicants:
Eligible to apply are senior year undergraduate, MA and doctoral students from any Balkan, European or other country.

Deadline for the submission of application and the reference letter is May the 16th 2010. All applicants will be notified by the end of May 2010.
Course selection:
Applicants are asked to select (see SECTION E in the application form) to select two (2) courses per course group , namely four (4) courses in total. Additionally, all applicants will have to attend the course "Ethnographic Research in Border Areas". This is a core course and the participation in it is a prerequisite for the certificate of attendance.
Each course will be comprised by four (4) 120-minute sessions. The daily schedule will be comprised by two-morning and one-afternoon teaching sessions.
Admission fee:
An estimated fee of 250 Euro is necessary for admission. This amount is intended to cover the travel and accommodation costs of the lecturers and guest speakers. The fee should be paid upon registration in Konitsa.
Accommodation, meals and travel expenses during the Summer School (for attending activities related to the School) will be covered by the municipality of Konitsa.
Any travel costs for coming to and leaving Konitsa must be paid by the participants themselves.
School facilities
The Municipality of Konitsa provides to the School the facilities of the Municipal Police Training School. Classes, meals and other academic activities take place in the main building while participants are hosted in the near-by accommodation building. Participants will be hosted in groups of varied national origin of 4-5 persons per room. The School's facilities are a 2-mn walk distanced for the town's center
Library - Wi Fi free internet access
The School has created a section in the Konitsa municipal library with publications in Greek and English on the issues that are dealt with in the courses. The library operates as a working space and offers wireless internet connection.
Certificate of attendance:
A Certificate of Attendance will be provided to the Summer School participants.
Prerequisites are:
1) The regular attendance of the selected courses and other academic activities during the School
2) The participation in the course "Ethnographic research in border areas"
3) The presentation of the ethnographic exercise results at the last day of the School
