Kuhn and Contemporary Kuhnian Approaches in the Philosophy of Science

The course will consist of lectures and seminar discussions. The lectures will cover the essentials of the main readings, while the seminar discussions will explore them at more depth. Upon completion of the course, the students should be able to describe important episodes in the history of science, to articulate the philosophical consequences of those historical episodes, and to analyze historical case studies employing Kuhnian-inspired conceptual resources.

Furthermore, students will have developed a nuanced appreciation of Kuhn's approach to the history and philosophy of science and be able to discuss both this approach, and the philosophical issues that it is intended to bear upon, critically.

Course aim
The aim of this Summer University course is to provide the students with a mastery of the seminal text in the history and philosophy of science and to explore the continuing impact of that text in contemporary work.

Course fee
EUR 0: Students on a bilateral exchange programme do not have to pay. Freemovers are obliged to pay participation fees while tuition fees only apply to freemovers from countries outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland.
