In the first part of the course, students will learn theoretical, ethical, methodological and ethnographic aspects of linguistic fieldwork. Students learn how to analyze the structure of an unknown language. Classes also involve practical sessions with a speaker of an unfamiliar language. The second part of the course will teach the structure of an exotic language. The course is not geared towards conversational competence in that language.
