Put simply, this course will give you greater insight into your personal career ambitions and how you can make those ambitions a reality. Helping you effectively prepare for tough competition, you'll be able to answer questions like: What do international graduate recruiters in different areas of business look for? How can I best market myself to employers? What skills and interests do I have?
How can I gain greater career insight?Thoroughly preparing you for the challenges surrounding graduate vacancies, practical sessions will provide opportunities to develop the main skills and attitudes international graduate recruiters look for. You will reflect upon your personal strengths and weaknesses while forming a plan of action to research career options. You'll become more aware of your interests to help you make career decisions as well as appreciate what it means to have an 'international career'. Meanwhile, employer presentations give you the opportunity to learn about specific companies and build potential networks.
The highly interactive nature of this course means it can provide invaluable support for all students interested in different areas of business regardless of previous experience or your stage of career planning. Its practical focus will support and encourage you in making concrete and realistic action plans.
This course will cover the following content:
- Explanation of competency-based recruitment systems;
- Conducting research and presenting in groups on what employers look for in different employment sectors;
- Analysing skills and values via reflection exercises;
- Guidance on how to conduct further career research;
- Employability skills sessions including employer involvement;
- Presentation on what it means to work internationally;
- Discussion about differences in international recruitment practices;
- Teaching on how to use LinkedIn and other international equivalents;
- Visit to an employer followed by reflective discussion on what you have learnt and how this compares to other companies/ sectors.
The teaching will be in an interactive format led by a King's College London Careers Consultant alongside various employers. Employer presentations on campus are in addition to a visit to the offices of an international blue-chip employer. Individual reflection and planning is combined with group work and presentations.

Course aim
The highly interactive nature of this course makes it unique in that it will support all students interested in a career in different areas of business internationally regardless of quantity of previous experience or stage of career planning. The individual nature of the course, combined with frequent opportunities to engage with employers in diverse companies and market sectors, means that the course is consistently engaging and varied.
The practical, as opposed to theoretical, focus will support and encourage you in making concrete and realistic action plans to be carried out after the course. An effort is made to make the course as internationally relevant as possible so students planning to start business careers in diverse countries will be able to gain practical insight. The course will give you both greater insight into your personal career ambitions and knowledge of how to make those ambitions a reality.
This course will also help you to:
- Identify and develop the skills and attitudes that graduate employers look for;
- Enable you to gain greater personal career insight including actions you can do after the course to further your ambitions;
- Develop abilities in critical self-reflection, labour market awareness and presentation skills;
- Gain greater knowledge of some key graduate employers;
- Become familiar with how companies use competency-based systems of recruitment;
- Develop self-marketing skills using Web 2.0 technologies (e.g. LinkedIn, Weibo, Brijj), in order to help you to develop your own networks and to present your achievements.
